Trinity Updates

Hello Friends!

Service Updates

I pray this letter finds you being transformed to be more like Jesus. We have some important updates that represent a move toward healing in our communities. With Covid cases reducing and states progressing in phases (may God be praised!), we are reintroducing refreshments at each campus, moving back to two services in Watseka (9 and 10:45), and celebrating communion together this Sunday! We’ll be taking special precautions, such as serving you coffee and donuts (vs. self-serve) and using pre-sealed communion elements (a new brand). What a blessing to celebrate Jesus’ sacrifice together again! By the way, there’s no need to sign up for church this Sunday. However, we expect our biggest space constraint to be the Watseka 9AM service. If your schedule allows, please feel free to visit the later service. Thank you!

Goodland Outreach- Saturday July 4th and Sunday July 5th.

Services in Ashkum, Goodland, and Online will continue at the same times, with one exception. On Sunday, July 5th, we’ll be holding an outdoor service in Goodland from 8:30-9:30AM (with socially distanced breakfast preceding at 7:30). We’ll also be handing out water on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. It’s a great opportunity to serve the community and to be a light for Jesus during the Goodland Grand Prix. There will also be a movie night at the Goodland church on Saturday the 4th following the fireworks at about 9:30 PM. It will be a fun and festive weekend, with opportunities to enjoy music, a bonfire, and some seriously fast kart street racers. Check it out here! If you would like to volunteer Saturday evening, Sunday morning, or to donate a case of water for the outreach, would you please let us know by calling the Trinity office or clicking this link Connection Card? Thanks!

Childcare Updates

We are prayerfully keeping an eye on state and federal guidelines. Our desire is to re-introduce children’s programming as soon as is safely possible. We are working and praying for reintroduction of our nursery ministry, with distancing, sometime in July. This may mean use of additional rooms and need for additional volunteers. Would you please pray for that? We hope to learn from this process, as an important step toward reintroducing all of our children’s programming. Meanwhile, the many kids who have come to the services have done an outstanding job! It’s been a joy to include them in the services. Thank you again, parents, for being flexible!

Ashkum Permanent Site

Some of you have asked about helping us to save and prepare for the Ashkum permanent site. Thank you! We currently have $80,000 saved and a family who has graciously offered to purchase the land. Wow! God is so faithful! As we assemble a building team and prepare to vote as a congregation in August, you may partner with us through the mail,, or the MyTrinityChurch app using “Invest in the Vision”, which will go directly for the Ashkum permanent site in this season. Thank you again for stepping up!

Let’s keep praying and working to see lives and communities transformed by the power of the Gospel. My love and prayers are with each of you!

In Christ’s Love,

Exciting News!

Hi Trinity Family!

God. Is. Faithful. Did you know that? Do you need to hear it again? Me, too. God. Is. Faithful! As we’ll continue to see in the book of Judges this month, God is faithful to stick with us, persevere with us, and to do all that he said he will do even in the midst of our great need for mercy and grace. Right now, God’s faithfulness is so abundantly at work among the people of Trinity Church that I'm going to struggle to share the story in a reasonably long letter--but I'll do my best. We have some big news to share, so sit back, buckle up, and let’s enjoy this amazing journey we’re on together!

We continue together on this journey of loving God, loving others, and serving the world as God uses us, by the goodness of his Spirit, to transform lives and communities. And you, Trinity Church, have been so gracious to continue to faithfully fund that vision of desiring to see lives changed by the gospel. This past year, the Lord allowed us to bring on Tim Tammen as our pastor to Next Gen Students and Families. We’ve been so pleased with God’s work through Tim, that we moved him from 15 hours per week to 25 hours per week and this fall we intend to bring Tim on full time! Meanwhile, God is blessing and expanding Trinity’s ministries, including our ministry in Goodland, our online campus, preparation to launch a Spanish ministry, and other opportunities as the Lord leads. In order to pursue transformed lives and communities and healthy campuses, we’re planning to shift Pastor Mike into a more global role. All of our Trinity pastors wear multiple hats and we value that our staffing can sometimes ebb and flow to meet the current opportunities and needs of Trinity and our communities. Each one of us is available to you personally for support and pastoral care. Tim will serve as point person for the startup of Ashkum fall ministries and will take on the role of Ashkum Campus Pastor starting September 1. We’re excited to see God’s work continue though the Tammen family.

Here is another piece of exciting information. The Ashkum Permanent Site Exploratory Team has been working and praying hard to select a new home for our Ashkum Campus. After reviewing many locations, they have recommended a beautiful piece of land immediately south of Ashkum. If everything continues well in negotiations, we will plan a prayer walk to the site later this summer and would take a congregational vote at our annual meeting in August. Would you please pray for that? By the grace of God, we have a Trinity family who is willing to purchase the land to be used for God’s glory! What an amazing blessing!

Thank you for praying! Thank you for your sacrificial contribution and participation in the gospel ministry. What a joy it is to serve the Lord with you!

In Christ’s Love,

The Staff and Elders of Trinity Church

What to Expect

Hi Trinity Family!

As we continue to make preparations for the safe return of worship gatherings at all three Trinity Campuses we want you to know that we will not be going back to business as usual. Our desire is to plan carefully, considering state guidelines, and offer a meaningful gathering time while bringing honor and glory to the One who is so deserving of our praise. As believers, let’s agree to live by faith and not operate in fear, but let’s also agree to be proactive and to act in wisdom towards our members and guests, especially those among us who are most susceptible to becoming infected with COVID-19. If you’re planning to join at one of our three campuses on Sunday, please follow HERE for a seating reservation. We can’t wait to see you!

Below are some things we’re thinking through. Our hope is that this will bring a level of trust and confidence as we move forward together through this next season and beyond.

How many people will be there?

Your responses to the survey suggest that many of you will join us in the buildings while some will continue to prefer engaging through our online platform. We’re keeping in step with the state’s guidelines for both Illinois and Indiana as they mandate attendance maximums. Rest assured that we have an eye on this and have implemented a reservation system to keep our numbers in check at each campus and service. We will continue to implement recommended social distancing guidelines in our seating arrangements.

Are masks required?

You are welcomed to wear a mask at your discretion, however, our efforts to assure social distancing recommendations from the state also mean that masks are not required during services.

I’m concerned about touching things.

As are we. We’ll continue to discourage physical touch during service times as a way to decrease the potential spread of illness. Our efforts include greeters using a friendly wave and hello rather than reaching for a handshake, no coffee bar service, no materials passed out, and no offering bags passed.

Will you clean between services?

Yes we will. To protect you and mitigate illness we will spend time cleaning, wiping, and spraying surfaces such as door handles, counter tops, and chairs.

What about children?

We love our Trinity children and want to serve them safely and effectively. Since our little ones are not able to distance themselves, we warmly welcome your entire family into our worship gatherings. There will be no nursery or other children’s programming on Sunday mornings for now, but we can’t wait for the next phase when we welcome our Trinity kids back into their own experience! In the meantime, we’ll offer an activity bag for your child, but we welcome you to supply your children with snacks, quiet toys, and quiet devices as needed.

Are we allowed to sing when we gather?

Yes! The state has recommended that we are careful in limiting worship teams or choirs to numbers that enable appropriate distancing, but we are permitted to sing. You’ve seen this demonstrated in our online worship experiences and we’ll continue to do so. We will also be intentional to abbreviate the number of songs we sing together.

What else?

This list is not exhaustive but it’s representative of the many things Trinity leadership is considering and working through as we continue to be flexible during this season. In the coming weeks we’ll continue to provide more information as needed and also continue to welcome your questions, concerns, and insights.

As a reminder, you can make a reservation for Sunday service seating HERE

Service times include: 9:00am in Ashkum; 8:00am, 9:30am, and 11:00am in Watseka; and 10:00am in Goodland.

We continue to be grateful for your grace, mercy, flexibility, and cooperation during this time. We are excited to come together again and trust that the Lord’s presence will be with us as we join in His name. Whether online or in person—we’ll see you Sunday. May God be praised!
